Born in Singapore in 1953 to a family originated from Lenggeng in Negeri Sembilan, Mizan began his musical career by following a band in a sea cruise. When the cruise landed in Japan, Mizan spotted a popular song there, which he brought the melody home to Singapore to be re-recorded as Hari Ini Dan Semalam, with the lyrics composed by Yusnor Ef, some time in March 1974 on EMI/Parlophone.
The song, included with three other hits - Kalau Ku Bayangkan, Renungkanlah and the P. Ramlee's classic Merak Kayangan, became an instant hit. Mizan continued to record three more EPs - Berpura-pura, Esok Datang Lagi (Juwitaku) and Tiada Jalan Kembali - plus an LP titled Hatiku Hatimu in the same year.
Two years later, Mizan recorded another EP with the title Ku Relakan Kau Pergi. Later on, he recorded another LP - Alunan Suara J. Mizan - where the signature tune Ku Membawa Diri became popular. Mizan's final recordings with EMI was in 1979, after which he retired to work as a permanent staff at the Changi Airport Cargo Section.
